Group Play Therapy

Children can benefit from therapeutic group work in the following areas (Sweeney & Homeyer, 1999 & Gladding, 1999):

Building relationships
Promoting a sense of well-being
Developing social skills
Normalising the theme of the group,
e.g. bereavement, separation
Reality testing
Risk taking
Growth in self-awareness
Therapeutic groups run with up to four children covering 6 or 8 weeks depending on the theme of the group. Groups run in age ranges 5-6, 6-7, 8-9 and 10-11. A group plan is tailored for the referral reason and prepared in advance. All materials are selected and supplied ready for the tailored group. These sessions are partly directed by me and also child-led. Want to know more? Request an information pack.
